Cities in the Bible

The earliest mention of city-building is that of Enoch, which was built by Cain (Gen. 4:17) After the confusion of tongues, the descendants of Nimrod founded several cities. Next, we have a record of the cities of the Canaanites, Sidon, Gaza, Sodom, etc. The earliest description of a city is that of Sodom (Gen 19:1-22) and Damascus is said to be the oldest existing city in the world.

Apollonia

A city of Macedonia between Amphipolis and Thessalonica, from which it was distant about 36 miles. Paul and Silas passed through it on their way to Thessalonica (Acts 17:1).

Apollonia

(belonging to Apollo), a city of Macedonia, through which Paul and Silas passed in their way from Philippi and Amphipolis to Thessalonica. (Acts 17:1) According to the Antonine Itinerary it was distant 30 Roman miles from Amphipolis and 37 Roman miles from Thessalonica.
