CHAPITER, noun
1. The upper part or capital of a column or pillar; a word used in the scriptures. [See Capital.]
2. That which is delivered by the mouth of the justice in his charge to the inquest.
First occurrence in the Bible(KJV): 1 Kings 7:16 And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one chapiter wasfive cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits:
